Operation Anubis v1.0.

Welcome to the first release of Operation Anubis, a mod for EAGames? BattleField 1942. In this initial release, we include three new, unique maps. These maps feature 28 of our 41 new vehicles, from all the various axis and allied powers. In the immediate future, as we complete our internal testing and tweaking, more maps will be added ? more than 10 maps are planned at this time ? featuring the complete selection of the new vehicles we?ve added to the game. Map: Bornholm

Background
Bornholm is a small island in the Baltic Sea between Sweden and Germany that serves as vital staging point for the German Navy.

Map: Mactan Island

Background
Mactan island, in the Philippines, was a potentially valuable strategic staging point for the air war in the pacific. Here, Japan and the US vie for control of a trio of air bases, as well as other strategic locations.

Map: Capadocia

Background
Capadocia is a rugged desert area in Turkey. Here, deep canyons carve through the sandy plains of the desert. In our scenario, British forces face off against German for control of this region.

New Vehicles

German Vehicles

Tiger II (Heavy Tank)
Carrying the 88-millimeter gun that was the bane of Allied troops, the Tiger II, nicknamed ?King Tiger? by Allied forces, was a force to be reckoned with in any battle. This is a tank that was both heavily armored and heavily armed.

Panther (Medium Tank)
Said to be a favorite project of Hitler?s, German aircraft production was cut so that more Panthers could be built. In 1943, though Panthers were not truly ready to enter service, Hitler insisted on their use in Operation Citadel, the German plan for the Kursk offensive.

Puma (Light Tank)
Fast, agile, and highly mobile on any terrain, the Puma is in reality an armored car more than a light tank, but is heavily enough armed to serve in that capacity. Though lighter than other light tanks, the Puma is also faster.

EBoat (Torpedo Boat)
The practicality of a small, fast craft that could conceivably sink a vessel many times larger was not lost on the Germans. Torpedoes had been vicious and successful weapons during World War One, and a cheap, quick strike weapon was an attractive alternative to the expensive submarine.

Arado E555 (Heavy Bomber)
In 1944, Arado was asked to compile design studies for a long-range jet powered bomber. On December 28, 1944, Arado was ordered to cease all work on the E.555 series, probably due to the worsening war situation, and the need to concentrate aircraft development and production on fighters.

Henschel (Light Bomber)
Though classified as a light bomber or fighter bomber, in practical terms the Henschel was designed as a tank killer. Armed with a massive fixed cannon modeled after those used on German tanks, this aircraft fills that role well.

Me329 (Light Bomber)
Designed with high hopes, the Me 329 was to be built mostly of wood due to Germany?s limited resources. The country was desperate for a heavy fighter that could fill multiple roles, and the Me 329 seemed capable of filling bill.

Me109TL (Fighter)
Because some leaders in the Third Reich feared that the Me 262 might encounter problems, a plan was made to convert the existing Me 109 design to jet power. The plan to incorporate the engines was less than ingenious, incorporating elements of the Me 155, Me 309, and Me 409, and two months into the project, it was scrapped.

Japanese Vehicles

Ho-Ni (Medium Tank)
Very little is known about the plans for the Ho-Ni Type II. Japan had a smaller need for armor, as much of their theater was covered by water. Consequently, this tank was constructed with a German gun as opposed to a Japanese one.

Fugaku (Heavy Bomber)
After having their homeland bombed, the Japanese began developing their own long-range bomber in the hopes of returning the strike against the United States. The result, the Nakajima Fugaku is a behemoth that almost rivals the Northrop B-35 in terms of sheer size.

Ki94 (Light Bomber)
In 1943, the Japanese became aware of the need for a high-altitude interceptor. Tachikawa presented the Ki-94, a twin tail and twin-engine design with two engines were arranged before and behind the central body. It was also the first Japanese plane to have a three-wheeled landing gear setup.

Shinden (Fighter)
The J7W was a small fighter of canard configuration. It had an excellently streamlined fuselage, small canards, swept wings, and a 2130hp engine driving a six-bladed pusher propeller. Potentially one of the fastest piston-engine fighters ever built, it was planned to fit a jet engine later. Of course, the war ended before the plane could be put into service.

Kikka (Fighter)
The Nakajima Kikka was a Japanese adaptation of the German Me109, and its jet powered German variant, the Me109TL. Where the Germans struggled with this design, the Japanese did them one better, improving significantly on the German prototype.

US Vehicles

Sherman Firefly (Medium Tank)
This tank underwent countless revisions, and was used in the Normandy landings. It was the only Allied tank during the landings capable of engaging a German Tiger or Panther tank, making it very valuable to Allied soldiers.

PT Boat (Torpedo Boat)
PT boats, the famed "Wooden Wonders" of World War II, were considered expendable warships. Their tactics differed from other boats in the Navy due to the almost complete lack of armor.

XB-35 (Heavy Bomber)
A gargantuan bomber, the Flying Wing never got past the prototype stage. Intended to strike Germany from bases in the United States and return, the design took advantage of the natural aerodynamic properties of the shape of a wing.

Avenger (Light Bomber)
The Navy?s replacement for the TBD Dauntless, the TBF Avenger is designed for one purpose: to deliver torpedoes to naval targets. Outmatched in a dogfight by practically anything in the skies, without fighter cover, this plane is a sitting duck for any enemy pilot lucky enough to find a flight returning from a mission. However, when able to proceed, it is a grave threat to its target.

P-80 (Fighter)
The P-80 began development in 1943 was a direct response to Germany?s new Messerschmitt Me 262. While the plane was ordered in massive quantities, only 45 were built before the war?s end. The plane was later developed into a two-seat trainer, the T-33, which is renowned throughout the world.

Russian Vehicles

IS III(Heavy Tank)
A conceit of Stalin?s, the IS-3 was designed to combat the new German Tiger tanks tearing through Soviet armor. A prototype was completed in November 1944. Production began sometime in 1945 and continued into the postwar period.

T44(Medium Tank)
Designed to replace the aging T-34, the T-44 was designed to carry a 100mm D-10 T tank gun, but it was quickly discovered that the planned gun was too large for the turret, and an 85mm gun was installed instead. Few T-44s were ever built, although later models did receive the 100mm gun originally planned for them.

KV85(Light Tank)
By any standards other than the Russians, the KV85 is no light tank, however, within the ranks of Soviet armor, it does qualify. Within this class, the KV85 is a solid match for anything the Axis could bring to the table.

ISU 152(Assault Gun)
This is a piece of artillery that emphasizes Stalin?s love for gigantic guns. Like all self-propelled guns, it is vulnerable to any armor and must be protected at all times. Further, the 152 is designed to suppress, and eliminate, groups of enemy infantry.

TU4 Bull(Heavy Bomber)
By 1944, the Soviet Union was desperate to have its own long-range bomber. However, the country was not yet at a technological level capable of producing one, so the solution was to steal a design: the American B-29. Stalin demanded a working bolt-for-bolt copy be built in two years? time, and the Bull was born.

IL 2 Strumovik(Light Bomber)
The "Sturmovik"; Russian for "Stormer? was the World War II predecessor to the modern A-10. The Sturmovik?s primary role was the destruction of ground targets?hardened ones, and armor?and it excelled at the role so much so that the idea of a close air support aircraft has been a staple of military strategy ever since.

MiG9(Fighter)
In 1945, Stalin demanded that the Soviet Union create its own jet fighter. However, at the time, the Soviets had no available turbojet engines to implement in the plane. Instead, they used two captured German BMW type 003 engines.

British Vehicles

Centurion (Heavy Tank)
The Centurion was Britain's first attempt to produce a universal tank. In 1943, after a succession of unfortunate designs, the British War Office commissioned a new specification calling for a tank with durability, reliability, a weight of 40 tons and the ability to withstand a direct hit from the German 88mm gun. Six prototypes were developed before the end of World War Two, but arrived too late to take part in the war on German soil.

Hornet (Light Bomber)
Along with the P-51, the Hornet was considered to be the pinnacle of piston-driven fighter technology. With a top speed of 488 miles per hour, it was capable of keeping up with the jet fighters of the day. The British had great success with the plane?s predecessor, the Mosquito, and with refinements added, the Hornet was born.

Meteor (Fighter)
The Meteor was the first Allied jet fighter that entered the war. However, by the time it was on active duty, the German Luftwaffe had been utterly decimated, and the Meteor never saw combat against enemy jet fighters. Its role was relegated to chasing down V-1 rockets fired at southern England. This plane also underwent extensive modifications?by 1949, it was already on version eight.
