III. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
If you have purchased the game on media then follow the instructions below.
Upon inserting the game disc the auto run splash screen should appear. From this screen follow the prompts onscreen to complete the installation.
If the game does not auto run, open up “My Computer” and double click on the drive in which the disc is inserted.
Note you will be given the option to install PunkBuster anti-cheat software. This software is required for play on online ranked servers. If you wish to play on ranked servers you must have PunkBuster installed. Visit www.evenbalance.com for more information on PunkBuster.
You are also required to have DirectX 9.0c installed to play. This is included in the install and will prompt you to update if required.
You will also be given the opportunity to install GameSpy Comrade on your PC. Visit http://comrade.gamespy.com for more information on GameSpy Comrade.
After the installation is complete you should restart your PC.
Once the game has been successfully installed start the game by either double clicking the Battlefield 2142 icon on the desktop (if you selected this option during installation) or do the following:
- Click on the Windows Start button
- Select All Programs
- Select Electronic Arts
- Select Battlefield 2142

If you have purchased the game via the EA Download Manager then follow the instructions as given on screen in the EA Download Manager to install the game.
If you purchased the game via EA Download Manager you must keep EA Download Manager installed on your pc to play the game.
The simplest installation method is to use the Battlefield 2142 Deluxe Edition, which contains Battlefield 2142: Northern Strike and is pre-patched to v1.40. If this version is not available to installation order is as follows:
Battlefield 2142™
Update 1.50 (full)
Battlefield 2142: Northern Strike
Update 1.50 (full)
The full Update 1.50 contains the Highway Tampa content update and all previous update content and as such it is not necessary to install all of the updates.
As a guide, the latest full update should always be installed last. In the event of any problems with the game, reinstalling the latest full update will generally rectify the situation and should be attempted before any other troubleshooting steps.

IV. NOTES ON COMPATIBILITY
Battlefield 2142 is designed to run on Windows XP compatible graphics and sound cards. Drivers for these devices are provided by the respective card manufacturer and may result in compatibility issues beyond our control.
If you are experiencing any issues, it is always recommended that you obtain and install the latest drivers for your hardware. The majority of hardware vendors have the latest drivers available for download via their websites.
If you are unsure of the manufacturer of your hardware follow the instructions below:
- Click on the Windows Start button
- Select All Programs
- Select Electronic Arts
- Select Easy Info
Easy Info will state the manufacturers’ name of your Graphics and sound card as well as other useful information regarding your computer.
On the Easy Info screen the links for updating the drivers will direct you to the EA support site which contains links to all major manufacturers and hardware vendors.
Most issues can be resolved by updating hardware drivers and is always recommended.
Notice: This game contains technology intended to prevent copying that may conflict with some DVD-ROM, DVD-RW and virtual drives.
It is a good practice to ensure all your drivers are up to date where possible. When updating drivers it is a good idea to check not only display drivers but also soundcard drivers, chipset (motherboard) drivers and CPU drivers.

This will reset your game to the default settings. You can now start the game, retrieve or create a new profile, and re-adjust the settings using the Menu as normal.
Players with SoundMAX HD Audio integrated chipsets may experience crackling and popping audio during game play, if you are experiencing this please ensure you have the latest hardware drivers installed (see IV. NOTES ON COMPATIBILITY)
